It’s an experience like none other I have ever experienced before, ever. I’m talking about a Dine-In Theatre from AMC. If you’ve ever been to a drive thru theatre where waiters on skates would bring you your food, well this is like that.
On the 4th of July, I visited the AMC Dine-In Theatres Essex Green 9, located in New Jersey. Now to actually be apart of the dining experience, you have to reserve your seats in advance but we, my mother and I, caught a break.
Notice the seat on the lower right of the ticket. |
The orders of operation for this service are between 12PM and 3:55 PM. Transformers: Dark of the Moon started at 12:45, just in that window. The lobby doubles as a mini bar and grill.
When purchasing your ticket, you must decide where you want to sit; we chose to sit in row H seats 1 and 2. Yes, its like a stadium, but not in size comparison, in order.
This is the lobby. |
Each section has a table for four with salt and pepper shakers and ketchup in the center. What you do is, before the movie begins, you order an appetizer and drinks. For the over 21 crowd, alcohol is served including liquors, wines, spirits, and cocktails. Much like the cocktail button in bowling alleys, a button rests for two customers. When pressed, a waiter will assist you.
It's a bit dark, but the lights were too dim for my camera phone. |
The food they serve is great; pretty standard for a restaurant chain like Bennigans. Some of the foods on the menu are the queso blanco chips and dip, caesar salad, chicken alfredo pasta, buffalo chicken pizza, and the bacon cheeseburger; I had the Thai coconut chicken tenders. I didn’t have the pleasure of sampling their desserts but they have angel food cake, New York cheesecake, and chocolate brownie sundae just to name a few.
I received my food around the twenty minute mark of the movie; it’s a whole lot quieter than eating from a nacho tray or rustling to get the perfect hand of popcorn. Enjoying great food while watching a movie is always great, even if the movie is pretty stupid.
People were outraged upon hearing this and I don’t see what the whole fuss is about. Why go to dinner and then a movie when you can go to dinner and a movie. Well, lunch and a movie.
There are negatives to this; my waitress didn’t give me any napkins so trips to the restrooms are inevitable. The dim lights on the table are there to help guide the food from the plate to your mouth but to some, it may prove annoying.
A bit blurry, but you get the idea. |
All in all, it was one of the greatest movie experiences in my life. The last time I had such a great time like this at the movies, I was 9; but everything seems better when you’re a child.
The price for tickets are pretty cheap starting at 9 dollars for 2D and are three dollars more for 3D. The food is even less expensive with food starting around $9.99.
Pay a visit to AMC Dine-In Theatres Essex Green 9 for an experience like none other.
