Movie 43 Review

What is Movie 43?  It’s a series of short films not really strung together by anything.  The film is vile, vulgar, amateurish and stupid but boy did I laugh.  I laughed hard.  If you like your comedies smart, with heart, with a deeper meaning and not riddled with toilet humor, then go and see something else.  This is a film that isn’t afraid to go overboard and stay floating in the water and it isn’t afraid to make you feel bad for laughing at it.  This is a balls to the walls, or face if that’s how you like it, comedy that lays its cards right out on the table within the first five minutes.

Silver Linings Playbook Review

Some minor SPOILERS below:

Everyone knows about Silver Linings Playbook so far and has been on the minds and hearts of the Academy and fans.  I knew the basic premise of the film before going in and I knew what the film was nominated for but I decided to not to think about that while viewing it or by writing this review.  I can say that the film is a slow build with some dragging parts but as a whole this film is magnificent.  With comedy melded together with heartbreak, mental illness, drama, and romance, this film is something that should be viewed and enjoyed.  Its a good time at the movies and youll leave the film feeling warm and joyful.

An Oscar Crossword Puzzle to Pass The Time

Hey guys, I don't have much to really bring to you for the next couple of day but instead of just leaving this blog empty like the theater for Ghost Rider 2, I decided to bring you something you might enjoy.  I created a crossword puzzle with the 2013 Oscars as a theme.  The crossword may look barebones and some of the clues may be really easy but I threw in some curveballs here and there to confuse you.  Tell me what you guys think.  You can either right-click and save the image below or you can click the link at the bottom to download a printable PDF version to work with.  Your choice.

Zero Dark Thirty Review

In the running for Oscar gold, this latest film by Kathryn Bigelow will have people talking . Zero Dark Thirty is about the near-decade long hunt for UBL (Usama bin Laden). The film follows Jessica Chastain who plays Maya, a CIA op who is hellbent on finding UBL. The film is littered with controversial scenes but I'm not here to talk to you about how these scenes are controversial, nor am I here to picket the film because of the scenes of torture. Like I've said before, I'm just here to tell you if the movie is worth watching. Zero Dark Thirty (ZDT) is a terrific film to watch.

Gangster Squad Review

Like the desert at the end of a four-course meal, Gangster Squad is nothing but empty calories for the eyes. The film is fun and is a blast to sit through with a fist full of popcorn and a mouth filled with soda but the film shouldn't be taken seriously as a great drama but rather a great Summer action film. The film doesn't try to make it seem like it's something more than a mindless good time at the movies and that's what it so much more enjoyable. Forget that the film is inspired by true events and you, too, will have a fun time at the movies.

A Really Late and Lazy Review of Texas Chainsaw

What else do I say except that this review may contain some spoilers.  Texas Chainsaw is supposed to a horror film set around the events of the very first film back from 1974.  The first film was a classic horror film, relying on the scares and the suspense to frighten the viewer; there was almost no blood and almost everything happened off-screen.  How does a studio release a follow-up 39 years afterward?  Do you start from scratch and imply what happened prior or do you show what happens moments after the first film ends? The film opens up reminding you of the events of the Tobe Hooper classic and kicks off from there.  From there I immediately fell in love with it.  I loved how the film was daring enough to implement a sequel to a film nearly forty years old when the target audience only knows about the one with Jordanna Brewster?  But my love for the film died faster that many of the victims by the hand of Leatherface

Introducing A Movie Club For You and Me

Did I watch those films before the end of the year? No, I didn’t and I feel a bit ashamed.  I did watch two films and feel slightly better about myself because of it but still, I feel like I let you guy’s down.  However, I’ve come up with a solution to fix that problem and to become much more interactive with my fan base.  Introducing the LazyDog Films Club.  You don’t have to sign up for anything, which is the best part.  I’ll post up a schedule of which film I’m going to see next and I will write a review and post a video on YouTube.  You can watch the films along with me to have an open discussion about the film, the acting, direction, cinematography, writing, and even fan theories.
